horseshoe bend SHARK Holds Press Conference About Salinas Rodeo

On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, SHARK held a press conference in Salinas, California. Many issues were uncovered, including the under-reporting of animal injuries. California law requires that rodeo animal injuries are reported, but injures are vastly under-reported in Salinas, and the rodeo is allowed to get away with it.

SHARK exposed the overwhelming conflict of interest of the Salinas Rodeo's veterinarian, who has very deep ties to the rodeo, and therefore has many reasons to under-report animal injuries.

SHARK exposed the unethical contact between a rodeo lobbyist and an investigator looking into the under-reporting of injuries. The investigator ultimately sided with the rodeo without ever looking at evidence.

SHARK released various publicly filed court documents which included very damning evidence against the rodeo.

SHARK exposed the support given the rodeo by the humane society in Monterey County, which publicly claims to oppose rodeo on its website.

SHARK invited seven people from the rodeo side, including two from the local SPCA, and not a single individual showed up.

So much for the myth of the rough, tough rodeo cowboys.
